How to Fix the Elementor Editor Stuck on the Loading Screen

Dindin Solehudin

You click "Edit with Elementor", the familiar loading screen appears, and then nothing. The spinner keeps spinning, the panel never shows up, and you are left staring at a gray screen. It is one of the most frustrating Elementor problems because there is no error message telling you what went wrong.

The good news: the cause is almost always one of a handful of things, and you can work through them methodically. This guide walks you through the checks in order, from the quickest to the most technical.

Before You Start

  • Make a backup of your site, or work on a staging copy.
  • Note what changed recently: a plugin update, a new plugin, a theme switch, a hosting migration. The most recent change is the most likely suspect.
  • Open your browser's developer tools and check the Console tab while the editor loads. Red error messages often point straight to the culprit.

Fix 1: Try Safe Mode

Elementor includes a Safe Mode that loads the editor with only Elementor active and a default theme. If the editor is stuck, a notice offering Safe Mode often appears on the loading screen, and you can also enable it from Elementor > Tools.

  • If the editor loads in Safe Mode, the problem is a plugin or your theme.
  • If it still does not load, the problem is more likely server-related.

Safe Mode only affects the logged-in user in the editor; visitors see your normal site.

Fix 2: Find the Conflicting Plugin or Theme

If Safe Mode worked, find the specific conflict:

  1. Deactivate all plugins except Elementor and Elementor Pro.
  2. Test the editor.
  3. Reactivate plugins one at a time, testing after each, until the editor breaks again.
  4. If plugins are not the problem, switch to the Hello Elementor theme temporarily to test the theme.

Common troublemakers include aggressive optimization plugins, security plugins, outdated add-ons that are not compatible with the current Elementor version, and plugins that load their own versions of JavaScript libraries.

Fix 3: Increase the PHP Memory Limit

Elementor's editor needs a decent amount of server memory, especially on large pages. If memory runs out, the editor stops loading silently.

  • Check your current limit in Elementor > System Info.
  • Elementor recommends at least 256MB, and 512MB is comfortable for bigger sites.
  • Increase it by adding a line such as define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '512M'); to your wp-config.php file, or ask your host to raise it.

Some hosts cap memory regardless of what you set, so confirm the new value in System Info afterwards.

Fix 4: Update PHP and Everything Else

Running an old PHP version or outdated plugins can break the editor in strange ways. Check:

  • PHP version: use a current, supported version. Your host's control panel usually lets you switch.
  • WordPress, Elementor, Elementor Pro, and all add-ons: update them so their versions are compatible with each other.

A very common cause is updating Elementor but not Elementor Pro, or the reverse. Keep both on matching current versions.

Fix 5: Switch the Editor Loader Method

Some server configurations do not play well with the way Elementor loads its editor. In Elementor > Settings, look in the advanced settings for an option to switch the editor loader method. Enable it, save, and try again.

Fix 6: Check Caching, CDNs and Optimization

Caching and optimization tools can serve outdated or modified files to the editor:

  • Clear all caches: plugin cache, server cache, and CDN cache.
  • Exclude the editor from caching and minification. Most optimization plugins already exclude logged-in users, but double-check JavaScript combining and delaying options.
  • If you use Cloudflare, disable features that rewrite JavaScript, such as Rocket Loader, at least for the admin area.

Fix 7: Server Security Rules

Firewall modules such as mod_security sometimes block the requests the editor makes, especially when saving or loading large data. Signs include 403 or 500 errors in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools. Ask your host to check the server's error log and whitelist the blocked rule for your site.

Fix 8: Browser Problems

Do not forget the simplest checks:

  • Try a private or incognito window.
  • Disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers and script blockers.
  • Try a different browser.

Fix 9: A Problem with One Specific Page

If the editor loads on other pages but not on one particular page, the page data itself may be the issue: a widget from a deactivated plugin, extremely large content, or corrupted data from a migration.

  • Use the page's Revisions to restore an earlier version.
  • Reactivate any add-on that the page relied on.
  • As a last resort, export a working section as a template and rebuild the page.

Wrapping Up

An endless loading screen feels mysterious, but it follows predictable patterns. Start with Safe Mode to separate conflicts from server issues, then work through memory, versions, caching, and security rules. Most sites are back to normal within a few minutes of methodical checking, and you will know exactly what to avoid next time.
